A Dunghutti veteran Leo Wright, or LEEKO as he is known to many, is a self-taught artist. He has done Aboriginal art for many years, starting in his childhood around the Bellbrook and Kempsey areas of the New South Wales Mid-North Coast.
“My paintings are now in collections in Europe, Asia, Egypt (in the Cairo Museum), North America and even in the Vatican in Rome. The painting for Pope Benedict XVI for his August 2008 Australian Visit was well-accepted.
My inspiration for Traditional Aboriginal Art comes from wanting to express how Aboriginal people survived by living with and caring for one another in the communities of the past.”
